Description:

The Animus Arts Collective is doing an interactive theater piece called The Hero's Journey for kids on playa this year. Influenced heavily by Joseph Campbell’s theory of the Monomyth — the one archetypal quest within all quests — the Journey combines elements from legends and folklore the world around. The Hero will pull a sword from an enchanted scabbard, learn lessons from sage masters, unearth magical treasure, and solicit the favor of the gods. He or she will face a series of riddles on the course of an epic odyssey and ultimately lead an army of foam-sword wielding Burners into battle against the Evil Wizard.

The Hero’s Journey was inspired directly by the 2011 Burning Man theme Rites of Passage. It has toured festivals and festivities in the New York City region in preparation for this year’s Burn, most recently at Revolutionary War era Fort Jay on Governor’s Island in NYC.
