About Uma

A life-long belief of "to know it is to live it" found Uma at the doorstep of the famed NYC Jivamukti Yoga Studio of Sharon Gannon and David life. 1997's top grad turned teacher-training director, began to cultivate her roots. Saraswati's "serial chants" and "deft sermons" quickly soared globally as both U.S. and French edition Marie Claire magazines began to pick up on her message.

As the foremost Senior Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, Saraswati mentored hundreds of students. Devotees and apprentices have gone on to open successful yoga studios nationwide.

Spiritual master, Shree Maa, initiated Uma into the ceremonial rites of puja worship. Her name Nanda Saraswati, The Goddess of Bliss, was then bestowed.

Through intense workshops and rehabilitative knowledge, Uma teaches the authentic experience of becoming your Self. In her pocket she carries a toolkit of ancient teachings: knowledge of Sanskrit language, performance of ceremonial worship, kirtan chanting (5-year tour with famed wallah bhagavan das), meditation, bhakti, and karma yoga studies. Over the years, Uma has had a host of long-standing, high profile, private clients.

Uma’s belief that you can't read life, you have to become life; moves you into the depths of your being, so you can peace out.

When she is not teaching yoga in downtown NYC, she is ecstatically chanting the name of God in bliss-filled, rock the house, get up and dance kirtans with Lokah. Their debut album, The Ivy Ceiling, is a groundbreaking work that fuses their hearts, souls and voices in a collage of sound. The album features the vocal gracings of Sting and a spoken word introduction by Russell Simmons. Roderick and Anissa Romero of the Seattle underground band, Sky Cries Mary, are featured on backing vocals.
