Description:

Passionate about the planet but fuzzy on the science? Learn from a scientist about the causes, effects, and mitigation strategies for climate change. This class will help you to understand the scale and importance of climate change and what you as an individual can do to make a real difference. We will discuss the science of long-wave radiation and the impact of gases such as carbon dioxide on Earth's radiative balance, the sources, sinks, and scales of carbon dioxide on Earth, and potential strategies for mitigating climate change through reduced CO2 emissions through renewable energies such as wind and solar and by geoengineering schemes such as geologic carbon capture and sequestration, terraforming, and oceanic iron seeding.
