48 Hour Film Project Kickoff: Black Rock City
Description:
The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild opportunity in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours. At the kickoff, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue, and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will be shown at our "On the Red Carpet Premiere" on Thursday evening, August 30th at 11 PM at our Playa Theater (with an Encore Show on Friday, August 31st at 10 PM). If you have a team and equipment, start at your leisure and follow the instructions on posters found at PlayaInfo and Videogasm (in Snowflake Village). If you want to get people for your team or join a team, come on down to Videogasm at 8:15 and Edelweiss in Snowflake Village on Tuesday at 3pm. The 48 Hour Film Project's mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its festivals the Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers—emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on "doing" instead of "talking."Note: Anyone making a video must first fill out a personal use form and get a camera tag from Media Mecca in Center Camp.
