Description:

Young food activists are sparking a renaissance of a 150 year old order - The Grange. A national organization having its roots in family farms and community halls.

Many Granges have become home to food literacy and sovereignty activists and the slow foods movement.

While the Grange has its roots in a fraternal organization from the start it supported woman having an equal voice and vote.

The California State Grange is a leader in the Grange revitalization and was an early advocate of GMO labeling.

California Prop 37 was initiated by a Granger. California is one of many Granges throughout the country that are supporting a return of agriculture to local farming, organics, sustainable practices, alternative energy and localization of living and working. We actively support the arts, music, education, youth and engage in a variety of community service projects.

California Grange is on the forefront of revitalizing this organization that was founded after the Civil War by family farmers who opposed domination by big banks and railroads that controlled markets and prices.

Corporatocracy is ever more powerful and many Granges actively oppose it.

Come learn about the Grange and how we work to create relevant communities whether urban or rural rooted in family and friendship.
