Description:

So you need a thing…
A primer on digital fabrication. i.e. Getting stuff made with digital tools.
This is a short lecture and longer discussion group on making things with: CNC routers and mills, Laser cutters/engravers. Also touching on water jet, plasma tables, and 3D printers.
Facilitated by Shoeshine, an instructor at San Diego’s premier group shop – Makerplace.
Topics include: Design software and file formats, 2D vs. 2.5D vs. true 3D, materials, design and strategy for digital production, different processes - pros and cons of each, ways of learning the tools, finding access, online and 3rd party resources, bridging the gap between art and manufacturing, and whatever else the collective mind wants to delve into.
Note: This is aimed at folk who would like to make use of these incredible technologies but don’t know where to begin. Though experienced users/makers are welcomed and encouraged to come and add to the discussion.
Loads of examples to view, handle, and talk about … Q&A session to follow… and schwag!!!
