Description:

Join us at the Black Rock Portrait Project "Art Gallery" at Whiskey & Dust 5:30pm-7:30pm on Wednesday. Meet the Artist, oil painter M Vlasic, get "shot", & see oil paintings of the citizens of Black Rock City (and other paintings by the artist). The artist will be taking more photographs of Burners at the opening, some of which may become oil paintings... Will YOU be the next subject? Wine served.

What is the Black Rock Portrait Project? It is a series of oil paintings of the “Children of the Dust”, the people of the Burning Man community. The people at the event are very unique, not just in their commonly outrageous dress (or undress) but their countenance, their demeanor, is unique to the event. Covered in dust these people have a spirit, a freedom unseen back in the “default” world. Because it is the people that create the event, it is my intention to focus on the individual. The “models” are photographed on-site, (with their written permission) and the paintings are created using these photographs as a reference following the event. These paintings will eventually be shown in a gallery setting hopefully one which will travel the country. A book about the project is also in the works.
