Description:

Do you chair joust? You know, those little time-wasting activities to keep us entertained while we wait for the electronics to do something: receive, compile, transmit, connect…. you could call it a coffee break or water cooler time, but the first thing I was introduced to in my career was chair jousting.

This class isn’t about chair jousting. It turns out most HR departments do not approve of that, even when both participants are willing (and especially when one of the participants was not willing). But there is something else you can learn, use as a meditation, and even turn into an amazing fire skill: flow!

Flow comes in many forms, and this class will teach you poi. Poi are things that many people set on fire and spin, which is ALSO something that HR has issues with. So, we’ll start you off with a pair of still-not-HR approved sock poi, and introduce you to a few terms and moves. After we get through the main introduction, those with prior experience and the fast learners will have a chance to learn more moves.

It’s not about having the most tricks (or the most lines in your source code), but also about meditation and zen. Because, all too often, an unwilling participant ends up in chair jousting when you’re fighting with the system that receives, compiles, transmits, or connects, and I think we all know HR doesn’t like that.
