Drumming and singing are some of the oldest human and cultural technologies, and they continue to evolve around the world today. People are increasingly drawn to share rhythms, songs, and instruments from around the world, creating interesting new synergies while also honoring the mystical traditions unique to specific cultures. In this workshop, we will learn some West African drum rhythms and practice playing as an ensemble. The floor will also be open for people to teach one another group songs and we will learn how to drum or play percussion along to the singing. Please bring your instruments if you have them, and remember, if you have a heartbeat, you have rhythm!
