Description:

This will be year 24 for me on the playa. We've been a registered theme camp for 10 years. Our main attraction is a trampoline suspended inside a dome, by a giant web of bungee cords. One year, having the tramp set up in my yard to work on it prior to BM, I had an inspiration. With a little modification, and a slightly larger footprint, we could make this into a pretty cool house. At the time, my wife was a student at UNR. She was in the a program designed for new business development. We put a team together, and after a lot of hard work, won a statewide competition, and got some seed money. EnviroHaven was born! After a proof of concept prototype, we had some interest from potential clients. One of these were for an off grid parcel in Pershing County, Nevada, the same county Burning Man is in. A year later, the happy homeowners moved in.
Our Haven home requires 25% less materials to build than a similar sized conventional home. It uses space very efficently. We built another one in a neighborhood in Reno (grid tied), that we lived in. Our 1600 sq. ft. home used a total of 67 gallons of propane for an entire year! Our average electric usage was around 10 KWH per day. This equated to a monthly bill of less than $40. Energy efficency was incredible! Plus, the upper floor master bedroom has a 360 degree view. A most enjoyable home to live in.
