The Art of Japanese Rope: Movement & Connection

Date and Time:
Wednesday, August 31st, 2022, 2 PM – 4 PM
Type:
Class/Workshop
Located at Camp:
Location:
Brulee

Description:

This workshop will introduce key concepts of movement and connection through the art of Japanese rope (also known as shibari or kinbaku).

This will be an all-levels workshop. No previous rope or movement experience is required. Those with rope experience may encounter new ideas and approaches to tying.

As this workshop will involve close physical proximity, extensive touch, and emotional connection between partners, we ask that all participants attend with a tying partner they know and feel comfortable with. We also ask that all partnerships plan to remain in the same roles (tying or being tied) for the duration of the class. Participants can return for our open rope jam later in the week to experiment with different partners and/or roles.

The class requires one ~25ft (8m) length of ~1/4in (6mm) natural fiber rope per tying pair. We will have ropes available for those who don’t have their own. Please wear clothing appropriate for a movement class.

In order to create the best environment for exploration and learning, no spectators or observers will be permitted. We also ask all participants to arrive promptly. There will be no late entries allowed once the class has begun.
