People-powered Printmaking and Shrubble Bar
Description:
1. We’ll have a Shrubble bar, serving a beverage made by adding a shrub (a flavored drinking vinegar) to either bubbly water or prosecco. We will carefully check IDs and ask guests to bring their own vessels. Our shrubs are commercially made and local to Southern Oregon.
2. We have a large format carved block (3 x 8 feet) that we will ink and stretch fabric over to print. We will do several printings, resulting in 4 large printed textile pieces which, once dry, will be cut into bandanas and gifted back to participants at our second event.
The wooden block itself was carved over a two month period by artist Rosie Taylor. It features Francis the rabbit along with images from his woodland home and other designs fitting for a fine smattering of intrigue. (Francis is a magical little fuzzy being who hopped unexpectedly into our lives last year and has since instigated much mischief.)
Traditionally these finished large wood blocks are printed by using an industrial steamroller; however we will be turning our fellow Burners into human steamrollers. Rosie will give a printmaking demonstration and lead participants in the “steamrolling” shenanigans. We will also have some smaller hexagonal blocks and bandanas available to print for those not wishing or able to engage in “full-body” contact printing. These smaller blocks were all carved by Shrubble n Glymbrr campers pre-playa in the theme of “Waking Dreams.”
LNT measures: We will have tarps down to protect the playa from any art supplies. Wood block, ink, and fabric are all conducive to LNT crafting in this format.
