Description:

Experience the tribal, hypnotic magic of contra, driven by everything from traditional celtic, to exotic electronic mixing of recordings and live instruments. Contra is fast-paced and exciting, yet easy to learn. A "caller" instructs, but there is room for dancers to improvise and embellish. There is no need to arrive with a partner – most dancers swap after each dance. Lines of couples flow through each other creating a bonding, playful, noncompetitive, all-ages community dance. There is no required footwork and contra is possible for many with disabilities. If you are smiling, you are doing it right. Everyone who shows up will have fun, and will probably find they can't stop from joining in on the hooting and stomping. Videos at the website. You can contradance all over the US (and a smattering of other countries) in dance halls with up to a thousand people. But the Playa makes it special so you should try it with us first!
