We’ll douse you in DJ culture with three of the genre’s most explicit explorations of the art known to grace the big screen.
First up, Doug Pray’s brilliant homage to the birthing of the Turntablist; 2002’s ‘Scratch’ dives deep into the roots where DJing began, and follows the rise, fall and resurrection of the beat juggler from Grand Wizard Theodore right up through DMC gods, the Invisible Scratch Pickles, X-ecutioners and beyond …
Our second offering is the 2012 epic ‘Maestro’. Written and directed by Josell Ramos, this intense feature tracks the journey of the underground House movement from a simple and necessary escapist colony of outcasts seeking a home for their alternative methods of expression, to the massive cultural phenomenon underground club life is today. A rare and precious peek into the lives of House Music DJ founding fathers Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, David Mancuso and others who literally lived and died to elevate the art.
