Description:

What do black holes look like and how do we study them? Astronomers have been contemplating these mysterious objects since the time of Einstein, but we've never been able to take a picture of one..until now. Join us for a conversation about black holes and the ambitious efforts taken to image and understand these cosmic curiosities. Mimi is an astronomer with the MaunaKea Observatories on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Known as “Aunty Mimi” among the island, she brings the joys of the universe to schools, libraries and local festivals in Hawai’i. After receiving her BS in Astrophysics from Haverford College, she worked in science education at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia and the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science.
