Radical Honesty
Friday, September 2nd, 2022, 7:30 PM – 9:15 PM
Description:
A fundamental transformation we encounter as Burners is the obligation not only to think about environmental limits and the consequences of personal consumption, but to actually experience it; when packing, travelling, establishing a camp, or constructing an art piece. We are radically self-reliant and must measure what we consume, power, food, water, in a manner not always necessary off the Playa.
But are personal responses to the ravages of consumption, as positive as they can be, enough to impact on what seems to be an unstoppable catastrophe - climate annihilation? We Are the Climate Problem demands that we confront this and other climate questions in a radically honest manner.
The interactive Radical Honesty Climate Workshop will take place at the We Are the Climate Problem installation site Wednesday August 31 and Friday September 2, at Sunset (7:30 pm). A third workshop will take on Thursday September 1 at a time and location to be determined. The workshop includes an introduction to the truth about climate collapse, and a science presentation that includes a “what hasn’t worked” section, and a human impacts section. The science presentation is followed by an open, candid, and honest discussion about our feelings, which may include anger, fear, frustration, despair, and even hope. We will then engage in an interactive discussion about possible solutions.
Please join us. For all Burners, but especially the young, climate collapse is the single most important threat to our future, families, friends, our way of living, and even our identity. It’s time to interact in a radically honest way concerning this emergency.
